Solar Path Sponsors U of A Decathalon Team
After two years of designing and building the house powered exclusively by solar energy, the modular structure affectionately named SEED [pod], was shipped to Washington D.C. to compete in the world-wide competition put on by the U.S. Department of Energy. The solar home had to be designed in a way that it could easily and quickly be taken apart and put back together several times. It took the team several days to disassemble and prepare the home for shipment to the competition location. Once there, the home had to be reassembled with the hope that nothing was damaged during shipment. The University of Arizona team was one of only 20 teams selected to compete in this year’s competition. The 2009 competition was the 4th to be held, with the inaugural event taking place in 2002. Solar Path is proud to have been a sponsor of this important educational event that brings awareness of the importance of sustainable buildings to the public by using the sun’s natural energy to power the systems that people need everyday. |
